چکیده

Coupling between spatially separated zero-dimensional states has been observed in a system of selfassembled In0.55Al0.45As quantum dots. Photoluminescence excitation spectra, taken at 4.2 K with a near-field scanning optical microscope, reveals narrow resonances in the emission lines of individual dots when the excitation energy is tuned below the barrier band edge. A fraction of these resonances occur simultaneously in emission corresponding to different dots, evincing lateral interdot excitation transfer. Experiments show that the wetting layer in the sample consists solely of localized states which are then invoked to explain the excitation transfer over the relatively large interdot spacing.

Applications of Quantum Dots in Cell Tracking

Tracking cells after transplantation is always one the main concerns of researchers in the field of regenerative medicine. Finding a tracer with long stability and low cytotoxicity can be considered as a solution for this issue. Semiconductor nanocrystals, also called quantum dots (QDs), have unique photophysical properties which make them as suitable candidate in this setting. Broad-range exci...

Spin and energy transfer in nanocrystals without tunneling

We describe a mechanism of spin transfer between individual quantum dots without tunneling. Incident circularly polarized photons create interband excitons with nonzero electron spin in the first quantum dot. When the quantum-dot pair is properly designed, this excitation can be transferred to the neighboring dot via the Coulomb interaction with conservation or flipping of electron spin. The se...
